Very Good--but Not as Good as It Could Have Been

There is good and bad news about this product. Much of the bad is a result of retaining poor editorial decisions from prior editions which used the pre-2011 translation of the Mass and, in some cases, go all the way back to the first edition of this book in the mid-1970s.
Among the minuses which are holdovers:
1) Notwithstanding the titles of the two weekday volumes, Volume I must be used after Pentecost in some years--such as 2012--when the ninth or tenth week of Ordinary Time is after Pentecost. Yesterday(June 11, 2012) was the first day since the new books were published when I could use Volume II, even though Pentecost was several weeks ago.
2) The editors have kept the silly division of Year II readings in Volume II (Pentecost to Advent). You must go towards the back of the book (page 789 for today) for the first reading and responsorial psalm then page back to the front of the book (page 69 today) for the Gospel (which immediately follows the reading and Psalm for Year I). Yet only 2 ribbons come with the book! I don't know why they didn't follow the same format as in Volume I: 1) Year I reading and psalm @) Year II reading and psalm 3) Gospel for both years sequentially in the front of the book.
3) In Ordinary Time, the prayers for all 34 weeks are shown from pages 17 to 63, in a separate spot from the readings for the weeks. While this has some logic (since celebrants can use any of the 34 formularies in any week of Ordinary Time), this arrangement calls for yet another ribbon in the book, leaving a minimum of 7 places to be tracked on some days (e.g., June 19, an optional memorial for St. Romuald):
a. Week in Ordinary Time (p. 30). b. Gospel Reading for Day (p. 82). c. Ordinary of the Mass (p. 616). d. Preface for the Day (pp. 689-692 or 699-701). e. Saint of the Day (p. 442). f. Readings for Year II in Ordinary Time (p.799) and g. Commons for the Saint of the Day where the Mass formulary includes only the Collect (p. 1120). [This, to some degree unavoidable, complexity is, no doubt, one of the reasons you see so few people with daily missals in church any more.]
One newly added aggravation with this edition of the St. Joseph's book (a problem with the OSV book, too): They have dropped the text of the petitions in Form C of the penitential rite in the prior edition, though these are the most commonly used forms in parishes where deacons participate in weekday Mass.
Realistically, most people will be deciding whether to buy this three-book set or one of the other two single volume options, the Daily Roman Missal from Our Sunday Visitor, or the St. Paul Daily Missal, published by the Daughters of St. Paul. I have not yet gotten the St. Paul Missal, but I can say that this book has some advantages over the OSV book--as well as some disadvantages.
Some of the relative assets of this edition: It has all ten Eucharistic Prayers (instead of just six as in the OSV Book). Because the material here is broken into three volumes, each one of the St. Joseph's books is more portable and has wider margins so that text is not lost or hard to read in the space between facing pages as with the OSV book. In the common of saints, the St. Joseph's Missal is much more complete. For instance in the section for the "Common of Holy Men and Women," it has at least six formularies omitted from the OSV Daily Roman Missal. Similarly, it has many more (though not all) of the prayers from Masses for Various Needs and Occasions. While the OSV Missal skips from Mass 3 to Mass 17, the St. Joseph's Missal, includes four additional Masses in the range from 4 to 16.
On the down side: The St. Joseph's Missal has no ritual Masses (i.e., for weddings or the dedication of a church or ordination) and does not show the reading options for funeral Masses (which would help someone planning a funeral). The votive Masses, while incomplete in both Missals, are far more complete in the OSV book than in the St. Joseph's book--including, in OSV, a list of dedicated readings for each Mass in contrast to the St. Joseph Missal's customary (but incomplete) direction to use the weekday readings and chants.
Overall, I am surprised that the OSV book compares so well; my memory was that the St. Joseph's book was much better but, in fact, each book has significant advantages and both are far from perfect.Daily Roman Catholic Missal, 7th Ed. Beware USED versions

Been trying to obtain a used 2012 version - EVERY SINGLE USED copy I've enquired about from the 3rd party sellers has been an OLD obsolete version. Be sure to ENQUIRE from the seller before buying, to make sure you'll get the current version - doesn't do us much good to get the obsolete version.

St Joseph Weekday Missal - Vol II w/zipper

The liturgy, for Ordinary Times, is hard to follow. The antiphons and prayers for Ordinary Times are not with the Readings so you are flipping from the Mass, antiphons and prayers and the readings. A number of the first readings are different then you find in other missals.
